A Bridge Between Experience and Expression.

The mission of the Literature Committee (LitCom) is to carry the message of recovery in written form by stewarding the clarity, integrity, and unity of Psychedelics in Recovery™ literature, so that the heart of the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions may be expressed faithfully, inclusively, and responsibly for all who seek recovery. Guided by group conscience and loving service, we attend to the written voice of PIR®, trusting that through humility, collaboration, and care, the message of recovery may continue to be shared clearly with those within the Fellowship and those still seeking.

The Written Voice of PIR

The Literature Committee (LitCom) serves as a steward of Psychedelics in Recovery™’s written voice, ensuring that all published materials reflect PIR®’s Steps, Traditions, Guiding Principles, and shared commitment to safety, inclusivity, unity, and spiritual integrity.

Working in collaboration with the Public Relations and Tech Committees, LitCom reviews, edits, and finalizes written content—including newsletter articles, blog posts, scripts, educational materials, and member-facing resources—so that language remains clear, accessible, compassionate, and aligned with PIR®’s primary purpose: to pursue recovery and help others do the same.

LitCom’s role is not to govern, promote outside issues, or endorse individual opinions, but to help preserve coherence, humility, and consistency across PIR® literature while honoring both lived experience and group conscience. Through careful attention to tone, clarity, and alignment, LitCom helps ensure that PIR®’s message of recovery is carried responsibly, respectfully, and in accordance with our shared principles.

Guiding Insight for Our Work

The Psychedelics in Recovery™ Literature Committee is guided by these words from A.A.
co-founder Bill W., who described the influence of recovery literature as “incalculable”:

“Suppose, for instance, that during the last twenty-five years A.A. had never published any standard literature … no books, no pamphlets. We need little imagination to see that by now our message would be hopelessly garbled. Our relations with medicine and religion would have become a shambles. To alcoholics generally we would today be a joke and the public would have thought us a riddle. Without its literature, A.A. would certainly have bogged down in a welter of controversy and disunity.”— The A.A. Grapevine, May 1964; The Language of the Heart, p. 348

This reminder grounds LitCom’s service in humility, responsibility, and unity.

We are not a marketing team — we are a service committee, rooted in the Twelve Step ethos of honesty, humility, and service. Our work reflects PIR’s values: to carry the message, uphold anonymity, and support recovery journeys.
